Your bedroom is the most important room in the house.

It also serves as a space for you to get away from it all and be on your own for a while. You should see it as your own personal haven, a space that’s just for you. Decorating the bedroom is a lot more complicated than people think and they often make a lot of big mistakes. Furnishing the bedroom is the hardest part because you don’t have a huge amount of space in there. If you’re decorating your bedroom and considering new furniture, you need to make sure that you’re following these simple rules.

Always Go Custom

You need to let the space in the bedroom dictate the furniture that goes in there, rather than the other way around. If you don’t go for custom furniture, you’ll inevitably have to make sacrifices because it’s unlikely that you’ll find things that fit perfectly. But if you have custom fitted furniture like Rauch wardrobes put in instead, you’re not limiting yourself. Look at the space you’ve got and start drawing up designs for your furniture. You can still use non-custom pieces for smaller items like bedside tables, of course, but when it comes to wardrobes etc. you need to go with custom furniture.

Plenty Of Storage

Clutter is a bedroom’s worst enemy and you won’t want to spend time in there if there’s always junk everywhere. The first thing to do is get rid of all of the clutter that you don’t need, but you’ll still inevitably have a lot of stuff lying around. That’s why you need to put plenty of storage in the bedroom. If you’re working with a small space, consider an ottoman bed with storage underneath. There’s plenty of space for all of your stuff but it doesn’t take up valuable floor space in the bedroom.

Get The Right Sized Bed

The bedroom is first and foremost, for sleeping so the bed is the most important piece of furniture. Without a good bed, your room won’t be the ideal place for sleeping. But don’t make the mistake of thinking that bigger is always better. If you fill the entire room with the bed, it’ll feel cramped and you won’t have space for all of the other furniture that you’ve got in there. When you’re trying to choose a bed, consider how much space you’ll have either side and strike a balance between bed size and space.

Don’t Block Out Light

Getting a good amount of light into the room is essential if you want to create a nice open space. The way that you arrange your furniture is important here. If you’re blocking off the light channels, you’re going to make your bedroom dark and dingy. Try moving things around into different places and see which arrangement gives you the most light in your bedroom.

Follow these rules and you’ll be able to furnish your bedroom properly and create the perfect space.
